How to share my VPN to a router or switch
Do you have a VPN that can't be installed on your router or ethernet switch? Do you want to share a secure Internet connection with all your devices?
Note: Only OpenVPN based VPNs and Speedify can be shared with Connectify Hotspot. Other VPN protocols like PPTP, Wireguard, IPsec etc. are not supported.
Hardware requirements:
- A connection to the internet for your PC, such as an internal Wi-Fi card or an external Wi-Fi USB adapter.
- An Ethernet port for your router or switch: an internal Ethernet card, or an external Ethernet USB adapter.
Step 1: Purchase Connectify Hotspot PRO or MAX from the Connectify website. Sharing to a router or switch uses Wired router mode, which needs Hotspot PRO or MAX.
Step 2: Start and connect your VPN. If you're not sure which VPN to choose, we recommend going with a mobile VPN such as Speedify, that can also combine multiple connections at the same time.
Step 3: Connect the Ethernet cable from your computer to the WAN port of the router (or in any port if you're using an ethernet switch).
Step 4: Open Connectify Hotspot. On the Hotspot screen, under Create a, choose Wired router.
Step 5: Choose your VPN under Internet to share. Icons next to each adapter tell you what kind of Internet connection you’re selecting. If you use Speedify, choose Speedify or Automatic: while Speedify is connected, Connectify Hotspot won't start with any other connection, because name lookups only work inside the Speedify tunnel while it's connected.
Step 6: Under Share over, choose the Ethernet port your router or switch is plugged into.
Step 7: Leave Network access on Routed (a VPN connection can't be bridged). Learn more about the difference between Routed and Bridged mode by clicking this LINK.
Optional: turn on Block ads in the Protection card, as this feature will save you a lot of data. Learn more about the ad blocker in Connectify Hotspot.
Step 8: Click Start hotspot to begin sharing your Internet connection with your other devices.
