How to Connect your Linux to 3G/4G LTE Internet with Connectify Hotspot

With Connectify Hotspot installed on your PC or laptop, you can easily share Internet from your wired Ethernet, 3G, or 4G LTE USB stick as Wi-Fi, so your Linux computer and other mobile devices can get online, no matter where you are.

Start a Connectify Hotspot

Step 1: Purchase Connectify Hotspot PRO or MAX from the Connectify website. Sharing a 3G/4G connection needs Hotspot PRO or MAX: on Hotspot Lite (free), 3G/4G connections that Windows lists as cellular or mobile broadband show a PRO badge under Internet to share. Some USB dongles connect to Windows as an Ethernet connection instead. If yours shows no PRO badge, you can share it with Hotspot Lite, just like any Ethernet connection.

Step 2: Open Connectify Hotspot. On the Hotspot screen, under Create a, choose Wi-Fi hotspot.

Step 3: Under Internet to share, choose your 3G or 4G device or Ethernet connection. The icon next to each connection shows what kind it is, and connections that aren't online show a No internet tag. Learn more about what to choose for Internet to share.

Step 4: Set a Hotspot name and a Password of at least 8 characters. The hotspot name is what your devices see when they look for Wi-Fi. On Hotspot Lite (free), the name starts with "Connectify-". Your Connectify Hotspot is a real, working hotspot that you use just like any other wireless network.

Step 5: Click Start hotspot to begin sharing your 3G or 4G LTE internet connection with your Linux computer and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

Connect your Linux device to Connectify via Wi-Fi

These steps are for Ubuntu. Other Linux desktops have a similar Wi-Fi menu.

Step 1: Open the system menu from the right side of the top bar.

Step 2: Click the arrow next to Wi-Fi to see the list of networks. On older versions of Ubuntu, click Wi-Fi Not Connected, then Select Network.

Step 3: Click your hotspot's name, enter your Connectify Hotspot Wi-Fi password when prompted and click Connect.
