The 'Share over' adapter you selected is connected to the internet

In Wired router mode (Hotspot PRO or MAX), Connectify Hotspot creates a new network on the Ethernet port you choose under Share over, and your devices, switch or router plug into that port. You cannot share your internet over the same adapter that you are getting your internet from, and the Share over port shouldn't be connected to an existing network. If it were, Connectify Hotspot would create a second network on top of that one, which can break both your PC's internet connection and the existing network.

Connectify Hotspot checks for this when you click Start hotspot, and tells you in one of the ways below.

"The 'Share over' adapter you selected is connected to the internet"

If the port you chose under Share over has internet access, Connectify Hotspot asks before it starts:

The 'Share over' adapter you selected is connected to the internet. Starting a hotspot on this adapter may break your Internet connection

Choose OK to start the hotspot anyway or Cancel to go back and choose a different option.

This usually means the port is plugged into your modem or your existing router. Click Cancel, then:

1. Under Share over, choose a different Ethernet port: the one your devices, switch or router plug into. If your PC has only one Ethernet port, a USB Ethernet adapter gives it another one.
2. Make sure Internet to share is the connection your PC gets its internet from.
3. Click Start hotspot.

"Wired router mode does not support sharing Internet from the 'Share over' device"

If Internet to share and Share over are the same adapter, the hotspot doesn't start and Connectify Hotspot shows this error at the top of the window, titled Invalid settings:

Choose a different adapter under Share over, or a different connection under Internet to share, then click Start hotspot again.

"Your Ethernet is connected to an existing network that already has a router"

If the Share over port is connected to a network that already hands out addresses (it has a DHCP server, usually a router), Connectify Hotspot stops you in order to avoid creating a networking conflict on that network. It shows this error, titled Error configuring hotspot:

You're sharing over Ethernet, but your Ethernet is connected to an existing network that already has a router. If you're trying to make a Wi-Fi hotspot, choose Wi-Fi hotspot instead of Wired router.

With Routed network access, Connectify Hotspot also stops a running hotspot if the Share over port gets connected to such a network.

To fix it:

• If you want to share your internet with devices over Wi-Fi, you don't need Wired router. Under Create a, choose Wi-Fi hotspot instead.
• If you're sharing to a router, plug the Ethernet cable from your PC into the router's internet (WAN) port, not one of its LAN ports. See How to share internet from your PC to a router via Ethernet.
• Otherwise, unplug the Share over port from the existing network, or choose a different port under Share over.
