Can I hide my network name or SSID?

There have been many user requests for this feature and Connectify would like to be able to offer this option, but unfortunately we cannot. Connectify Hotspot creates its Wi-Fi network with Windows' Wi-Fi Direct feature (the default) or, if you turn off Settings > Network > Wireless > Prefer Wi-Fi Direct, with Microsoft Hosted Network. Neither one lets an app hide the network name (SSID) or stop broadcasting it, so Connectify Hotspot has no hidden network option.

Either way, what Connectify creates is a regular Wi-Fi hotspot, and every device in range sees its Hotspot name. What keeps it private is the Password: choose a strong one, and give it only to the people you want on your hotspot.

To check who is on your hotspot, click Clients. To keep a device you don't recognize off the internet, select it and turn off Can use the internet, then change the hotspot's password. Learn more about the firewall options in Connectify.
